What to expect at Brasserie Zedel, the french restaurant in Piccadilly.

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

If you’re looking for a restaurant which has a quintessential ambience of class and sophistication, this grand 1930’s Parisian brasserie will be sure to leave you in awe.

My boyfriend and I arrived at the restaurant in Soho at 9:00pm on a summer evening. It had such a bustling atmosphere upon arrival! Walking into the Brassiere Zédel entrance hall felt imposing due to the authentic Art Deco interior. It almost felt like an upscale hotel lobby!

Within the beautifully-themed lobby, you will find the ‘Bar Americain’, an intimately-lit sophisticated bar which would be perfect for either pre or post dining drinks, or purely for any special occasion to celebrate in elegance and style. As well as the Bar Americain, there is even a 60 seater Live Music Venue called ‘Crazy Coqs’, the venue brings together a range of glamorous events which involves cabaret, theatre, comedy and even magic shows! Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to have experienced the live venues at the Crazy Coqs due to on-going restrictions as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic, although I would still encourage you to attend if you’re fortunate enough to find availability. It would ensure you get the full Zedel experience!

In the brasserie hall itself, it had such a lively vibe enhanced by the live jazz music which was such a nice touch to the experience, we were promptly greeted by the hostess who showed us to our table.

The waitress introduced herself to us and handed us our menus, and we noticed how surprisingly inexpensive the menu was! A 3 course dinner from an á la carte menu was around the price of a single meal in many London restaurants, it certainly wasn’t expected!

The set 3 course dinner we decided to order from the menu was Carottes Rapées for our starter, the Steak Haché as the main course in addition with a side of Escargot. My partner is quite fond of escargot although I have personally never tried it.

We were impressed by how professional and courteous all the waiters were, we felt engaged and noticed as we were consistently checked up upon whilst we were waiting for our food.

The Carottes Rapées was the perfect starter, it was well-garnished and tasted incredibly fresh. Along came our main, Steak Haché. It was beautifully prepared and succulent with peppercorn sauce drizzled over. It was cooked to medium and was delightful to indulge in.

In addition to this, we had our Escargot served as a side. Although my boyfriend really enjoyed them, I wasn’t too fond. However, that's my personal view from someone who isn’t keen on escargot! Therefore if you enjoy this dish in general, you should undoubtedly request it! The only downside was the fact that there were one or two near empty shells. Regardless of this, the waitress was very apologetic and gave him two extra escargot to enjoy.

I’m conclusion, I would wholly encourage you to visit Brasserie Zedel. The Brasserie’s warm, inviting and vibrant atmosphere will certainly leave you feeling impressed upon arrival. In regards to the service, the team was highly engaging and ensured a pleasant experience for the diners such as ourselves. Likewise, the food met our expectations. The quality was luxurious and was served efficiently and promptly, not forgetting how surprisingly affordable the 3 set course was.

Overall such a lovely experience, I will highly recommend Brasserie Zedel to others and will visit again in the future without any hesitation.
